"I love the sound, the smell, the feel, the rush, and above all the competition" states Sara
Maloney.
Focused, knowledgeable and driven are just a few words that describe Sara Maloney in her
pursuit to reach the upper levels of American stock car racing. The Batavia, Ohio resident
started chasing her racing career at a very young age and after 12 years of excellence on the
track, Sara also continues to pursue excellence in the classroom. She is currently attending
University Of Cincinnati Clermont College for Multimedia and Graphic Design.
This young lady from southern Ohio is a strong believer in faith and family, surrounding
herself with supportive and caring people including her mother, father and younger sister.
Since the age of 9, Sara Maloney has continued to climb the ranks of local racing. Starting out
in go-karts around Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, Sara finished third in the season points
standings after winning several feature events at the age of 10. After a couple more years on
high-powered karts, she received the Sportsman of the Year award at Tollesboro Speedway in
Kentucky.
From there with a little creativity, she moved into a sub-compact car division. Unable to
compete at tracks in Ohio because of her age, her father found a track in Goddard, Kentucky.
The nearly two-hour trek every Saturday proved her dedication. Winning two feature wins and
the Rookie of the Year title at just 13 solidified her ability to be competitive in a male-
dominated sport.
The awards continued over the next several years, including becoming the first female and the
youngest to win a Brown County Speedway Hat Trick, in the track's 32-year history. The Hat
Trick is winning the Fast Car Dash, the Heat Race and the Feature Race all on the same night.
Sara’s career and accomplishments have been featured in the UAW’s magazine Solidarity, as
well as industry publications Stock Car Racing, Dirt Late Model and on the cover of Circle
Track magazine. Sara was also honored with being named as one of the “Fifteen Notable
Women Racer’s to Keep an Eye On.” The list put her in good company along side Erin
Crocker, Sarah Fisher, Danica Patrick and several other of today’s top female drivers.
Just as the great race car drivers from around the world, Sara has the special ability and desire
to drive high-powered race cars. “Racing is more than a hobby to me; reaching the top-level,
NASCAR Nextel Cup, is my goal in life,” declared the 20-year-old. “To me, racing is more
than the sounds of the engines and going fast. It’s the competition that drives me. I am a very
competitive person and am willing to work very hard and as long as possible to achieve my
goals in this sport.”
“The atmosphere of the racing business is unique as it is very family-oriented and you receive
support from so many people. The fans who support me are a driving factor; they come out
and cheer me on, which only adds to my determination to make it to the top.”
The biggest driving factor for Sara is her family and God. She knows without either she would
not have been able to get as far as she has nor be able to continue her dream of making it to
the top.
Listen for the name Sara Maloney in the future as she competes on the short tracks, making
her way to the top-level of auto racing.
