| When she was just 12 years old, Corrina Kelly’s Dad bought her 1st Kart. Actually, it was to be shared between Corrina and her brother, but even at a young age Corrina was bitten by the racing bug and managed to talk her brother out of his turn so she could race instead. The major influence that Corrina had to race was because of her Dad. Without him, Corrina tells us that she more than likely would not be racing. Not because he bought the 1st Kart, but because of what he does to make sure Corrina’s Kart is in tip top condition every weekend. When it comes to racing, Corrina is out there for the win! When she straps in, Corrina remains extremely focused on her driving. Once behind the wheel, nothing distracts her from the task at hand. Corrina thinks about her starting point and how to get the best start. In her own words, “One little mistake on how you start can send you to the back and there isn’t always a chance to catch up.” When racing, and because Corrina is a girl, some of the guys were very rough on the track…at first. They tried their best to spin her out and to push her around. But Corrina stood up to the challenge, and showed them that she was not going to let up and be pushed around the track. When she started to finish in the top 6, they backed down and realized that Corrina was a force to be reckoned with on the track and gave her the respect she deserved…not because she was a girl, but because she was a good driver. When we asked Corrina what it was like racing against the guys she told us, “I love racing with the guys, especially when I can beat them. I just get a huge smile on my face.” Corrina currently races Karts at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Florida where she is currently 7th in points for the 2007 season. Her ultimate dream is to drive in a NASCAR series. To do this, Corrina has been looking at different driving schools and one would one day like to get into racing cars or trucks. For now, Corrina is having a blast racing karts, and getting all that seat time is an extra plus for her racing career. You can read more on Corrina’s web site.
